At over 5000 years old the carins at Loughcrew are of major archealogical and mystical significance. Similar to the cairns at Newgrange these megalithic structures are illuminated with morning sunlight at major events in the calender. However, unlike Newgrange they have not been heavily developed for tourism and as such offer a better opportunity to experience the history and mystery of the place.

History

Meath Heritage are responsible for the site.

Keys for Carin T can be obtained from the coffee shop at Loughcrew Gardens

Mysticism

For thousands of years the carins have inspried local legends. Whether you believe these stories were concocked to protect the carins or that there is deeper spirtual significance to the site, little is known about the exact purpose or meaning of the site.
